In late 1999, a group of concerned business people backed an initiative by Fight Back editor Mike Rogers and Roger Drake to produce a newspaper promoting Australian ownership in the Australian manufacturing industry.

Independent retailers are also fighting back, many of Australia's largest independent grocery retailers have got together to promote the Aussie owned brands on their shelves via Fight Back's "shelf talker" program.

The Fight Back "shelf talker" program is starting to have a real effect on sales in stores, and the convenience of having the Aussie owned product labelled has been well accepted.
