New Store Opening at Aldinga

Message from Roger Drake, CEO, Drake Supermarkets

We are extremely excited to announce the opening of our new store at Aldinga which is located in the Aldinga Shopping Centre. This store will supply our customers with a great shopping experience, never seen before in the Aldinga area. As you are aware, we are a great supporter of local manufacturers and producers, and we will carry the maximum range possible with a huge range of fresh products. You will find lines that you may have been told by other retailers have been discontinued, however generally this is not the case, and we have sourced these lines and will provide these to our customers. If there is a particular line that we don't carry that you would like us to source, please speak to our friendly staff at the store and they will be more than happy to assist. Our store has been designed with feedback from our customers, and for your comfort and convenience, with the latest technology in checkouts. We look forward to seeing you in our store in the near future where you will be offered specials that have not been seen in the Aldinga area for years.

Training Graduation Ceremony

The graduation night for the 2008 trainees was held on the 23rd March, at AAMI Stadium. With over 150 people in attendance, it proved to be a very successful event. The Master of Ceremonies was once again Mr John Socratous, who did a fantastic job. We were treated to speeches by Mr Roger Drake, Mr Bob Soang, and a student address by trainers Gaylene Dixon and Rocco Marafioti with graduates Courtney Gaunt from Para Hills Foodland, nathan Salvemini from Blackwood Foodland and Sue Halls from Newton Foodland.
Scott Jamieson, (a defender for the 'Adelaide United Football Club'), was our guest speaker and along with picking apart his playing record, we were given an insight into how he motivates himself on a daily basis.
Special mention must go to Sean Eardley from Kingscote Foodland, who was the winner of the Business SA Career Development Award. The Award was presented by Mr Phil Methofer, General Manager of Employment Services at Business SA. Sean commenced employment with Drakes in March 2006 and since then has worked his way up to become one of the youngest Grocery Managers at 17 years of age. Congratulations Sean!
This year's ceremony also saw for the first time, the graduation of many employees from a Certificate IV in Business Administration. This was the first year that Drakes were involved in the certificate and its success is a testament to the commitment of both management and staff at Drakes.
Special thanks must go to Tegan Couzner and Jenna Kellaway for their efforts involved in organising the night and making it such a success.
On behalf of Drake Management, well done to all of the graduates and we wish you success in your future with Drake Supermarkets.

Queensland News

Thoughout this year Drake Supermarkets is continually proving to be a standout amongst its IGA counterparts at the IGA Retailer of the Year Village Awards. In January, with 14 nominations in the Twin Rivers region, our Gold Coast stores, Ashmore City, Biggera Waters and Burleigh Heads received 4 awards including Customer Service, Fresh Produce and Service Deli. Simon Tanti was also awarded Store Manager of the Year.
In February, Drakes had an equally pleasing result at the Sun Bay City Village Awards. Our Rochedale, Parkinson and Wynnum stores were nominated for 18 categories and won nine out of the ten possible awards. The winners included Rochedale for Dairy/Freezer, Grocery, Meat, Fresh Produce, Service Deli, General Merchandise and Store of the Year. Drakes Supermarkets Parkinson was awarded Bakery of the Year and Wendy Evans from Wynnum was awarded Store Manager of the Year.
With these outstanding results, the North Brisbane High Rollers regions which included our Brookside, McDowall, Flockton and Samford stores had a lot to live up to and they certainly did not disappoint! It was a clean sweep - 20 nominated categories and 10 out of a possible 10 winners. Congratulations to David Woolidge from McDowall for winning Store Manager of the Year and Drake Supermarkets McDowall for winning Store of the Year.
Having achieved a vast number of village awards, Drake representatives travelled to Sydney to attend the Queensland/New South Wales State IGA Awards. At these awards Drake Supermarkets Rochedale was awarded the General Merchandise award, Burleigh Heads the Customer Service award and Simon Tanti won the overall Store Manager of the Year.
At Drake Supermarkets we are proud of our achievements and our winners. These awards are a reflection of the hard work, passion and dedication our staff devote to their jobs and our organisation on a daily basis. Drake Supermarkets are a strong force in the Supermarket industry, not only in Queensland but across Australia and with our further expansion in Queensland later in the year and the formal recognition for our excellence, it is only a sign of what is to come!
We wish Simon the best of luck at the National IGA Retailer of the Year Awards held on the Gold Coast in July.
