You won’t feel guilty eating these Hot Cross Buns. The girls from The Food Curators have brought a healthy spin on the Easter favourite so you can eat as many as you like.



1/2 cup of almond meal
1 cup coconut flour
1/4 cup honey
6 eggs
250 grams ghee or coconut oil
2 apples peeled and grated
1/4 cup of unsweetened sultanas
2 tsp. nutmeg
6 tsp. cinnamon
2 tsp. all spice



Preheat your oven to 150°C.

Line 12 muffin tins with large muffin cases.

In a large bowl, mix the almond meal, coconut flour, nutmeg and cinnamon in a bowl.

Add the honey, oil and eggs and mix well.

Add the apple and sultanas. Mix again until it forms a dough.

Once the mixture is all combined, roll in to 12 even balls.

Place them in to the muffin cases and press down a little.


Place 1/4 cup wholemeal flour in a small bowl.
Stir in 3 tablespoons of water until a thick white paste forms
Place into a sandwich bag, pushing the mixture into the corner. Cut the corner to create a piping bag.
Pop the buns into the preheated oven and cook for 30 minutes.


Serve without the muffin cases (so they look more bun-like), while warm, serve with TFC homemade healthy nutella or almond butter or whatever you fancy. All we can say is, delish!
