To make the creamiest, luscious butter cream icing, you just need to follow the most basic of steps. Here are just a few! Thanks to Jessica Liebich for her fantastic tips!

Buttercream Icing is one of those must-haves on any cake or cupcake. With just a few simple ingredients to start off with – butter, icing sugar and water- you can then add any colour or flavouring such as vanilla and cinnamon or cocoa for chocolate butter cream icing.

270g icing sugar
140g softened unsalted butter
30mls water

  1. Sift your icing sugar to get rid of any lumps – no one likes lumpy icing!
  2. Make sure your butter is softened. Leave out of fridge for several hours (depending on weather) or put into microwave for up to 15 to 20 seconds.
  3. Always opt to use electric beaters to beat your buttercream. You will end up with a deliciously whipped and fluffy buttercream!
  4. Invest in a piping bag and nozzle to give you varying styles of decoration.
