Your classic meatballs get an upgrade in this recipe with the addition of chili flakes and fresh herbs – perfect for pairing with a rich tomato sauce, your favourite pasta, and lashings of freshly grated parmesan.
Not a fan of spice? Just leave the chili flakes out.

1 tsp chili flakes
1 tbsp chopped basil
Salt and pepper
500g spaghetti, cooked
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 tbsp dried oregano
1 tsp chili flakes
Parmesan cheese to serve
Chopped parsley to serve
In a large mixing bowl combine v2mince with first tsp of chili flakes, chopped basil and salt and pepper to taste. Roll the mixture into 16 equal sized balls.
Heat olive oil in a large frypan on medium-high heat. Brown the meatballs on all sides and remove from the pan. Add an extra tbsp of olive oil and fry off the onion and garlic until just beginning to brown. Add oregano and chili flakes and stir through before adding passata and reduce heat to low. Return meatballs to the pan and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add cooked pasta and stir to warm through.
Serve with fresh grated parmesan and chopped parsley.
